THERE were thrills and spills as Sudbury Motorcycle Club contested the third round of the GH Motorcycles & Husqvana Solo Eastern Championship, writes PAULA DAY.
Riders did not disappoint in the multi lap penalty determined competition.
The event, the first of Sudbury competitions open to spectators, took place at Home Farm, in Little Hadham.
The 121 competitors tackled the five-mile track through woodland and farmland from 10am till mid-afternoon.
They contended with the ever-decreasing time to complete the lap and a timed special test on laps two and three.
All laps included the infamous Bog with back markers holding up some of the leaders as the lines got more rutted and congested.
Championship and Expert Riders completed nine laps and Clubman class seven laps as the day grew hotter and the dust more apparent over the beautiful rolling Hertfordshire countryside.
This third round kept the solo riders in the top six from the previous rounds on their toes and with four of the five rounds counting towards the championship.
The win strengthened Luke Parker's lead in the Championship Class, Paul Belton in Clubman Vets and John Hilton in Clubman Super Vets.
The Expert Class championship is divided by just a few points, with Joe Phillips winning on points after his recent victory at Blaxhall.
He beating last weekend's winner Jake Roper, who is currently in second place.
Paul Spurgen leads the Expert Vets after his second place and there is a tie for second spot between Phil Roper and Darren Nicolaou, neither of whom tackled the Home Farm track.
With all eyes on the next round on August 15, it looks to be an exciting finish for the Championship title with two rounds remaining.
