THE Colne Valley ladies’ section have been busy this week.
Two pairs got through to Regional Finals of UK competitions.
Firstly, Lesley Knight and Corinne Burnford qualified for the Eastern Region Australian Spoons competition to be played at Bedford & County Club on August 4.
Then Frankie Salmon and Mandy Rollins qualified for the regional final of the Peugeot Coronation Foursomes competition to be played on August 11, also in Bedfordshire.
There was also a Ladies’ Medal Competition which was won by Sheree Don with a nett 69.
In second place was Ann Birch on nett 77, with Karen Charles third with nett 78.
Colne Valley’s Curry Cup team had a good win against Colchester at home, coming out on top 10½ to 7½ points.
The team got off to a good start in the morning leading 5-1 after the Foursomes with Stuart Carr and Tim Little (7&5), Paul Davies and Steve Loran (6&4), Paul Carroll and Stuart Collingridge (4&3) and Julian Edwards with Mick Cousins (1 up thanks to a terrific putt by Mick on the 18th) all securing good wins.
The afternoon singles proved a bit more difficult but wins for Steve Loran, Russ Bell, Stuart Carr, Paul Carroll and Stuart Collingridge, together with a hard-fought half for Derek Salmon, got them over the line.
