Painter and decorator Matt Cardle is through to the next round of X Factor.
Matt, who lives with his parents in Little Maplestead near Halstead, is hoping for a big break because he is so fed up with his job.
On the Saturday ITV talent show, Matt got the thumbs up from judge Simon Cowell after singing Amy Winehouse’s You Know That I’m No Good.
Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh also put the 27-year-old through to the next round.
Before his performance, Matt told Dermot O’Leary: “At the moment I’m painting hotel rooms.
“I hate every moment of it to be honest.
"I try and keep myself going by singing.
“I have been thinking about auditioning for a couple of years now and just thought I was ready this year.
“This would mean the end of magnolia all over my face and hands, the end of brushes and hotel rooms.
“It would be the break I need. I’m desperate to get through.”
