More than 400 years ago, a Halstead postwoman’s relative was about to blow up Parliament.
Claire Fawkes from Sible Hedingham does not shout about the fact she is related to the infamous Guy Fawkes.
Tomorrow, thousands of bonfires will blaze up and down the country to mark the day the plot was scuppered - 404 years ago.
Miss Fawkes, who is a great (x6) granddaughter of the would-be assassin, said: “People tend to take the mickey out of my name.
“It’s so rare and there are various spellings. I don’t usually tell people I’m related.”
Miss Fawkes, who lives off Swan Street and delivers post in the Halstead area, said on bonfire night the Fawkeses usually had a family get together.
