YOUNG singer and dancer from Halstead has landed her "dream role" in the world tour of Les Miserables.

Beth Curnock, 22, of Stansted Road, danced with the Elizabeth School of Dance and Jenny Pendrills from a young age, and continued to pursue a career in musical theatre throughout her time at the Ramsey Academy.

Beth gained a GCSE in dance and drama at the school, and began training in musical theatre with Ipswich Youth Group, The TCTC in 2015.

Beth said: "I studied Musical Theatre at Colchester Institute and did a foundation year at CTC Foundation College.

"I graduated from performers college in May and got my degree in Musical Theatre and Dance."

Earlier this year, Beth began auditioning for various shows, including her dream show of Les Miserables.

In July, she was told she had been cast in the 2024 world tour of Les Miserables, with shows in Switzerland, Italy, Scandinavia, Abu Dhabi and Australia.

She said: "I have done many auditions for lots of different styles of shows since March but Les Mis has always been the dream.

"I was told at the end of July about this job and had three weeks to prepare before starting rehearsals.

"My agent told me in person which was really special.

"I was in shock and I think they reacted more than me at the time.

"I didn’t know what to say."

Beth added: "This is a huge job and although being able to travel the world for your job is incredible but also the thought of being away from home for a long time is a bit scary and it took a bit of getting used to.

"I am in the ensemble and also 2nd cover for one of the leads, Eponine.

"That’s always been my dream role."

In August, Beth moved to London for three weeks for rehearsals before opening the show at SSE Arena in Belfast in September.

In preparation for the tour's shows, Beth has daily training and makes sure to keep on top of the show's material.

Beth said: "As a cover I have to make sure I keep on top of knowing the material for the Eponine track as it is very different to the ensemble track I do everyday.

"We are called an hour and a half before every show for a company warm up on the stage/any notes from the previous performance."

The arena tour is set to return to the UK over Christmas and New Year, with performances in Manchester and Newcastle.

The European tour will then continue across Scandinavia and finish in February 2025 in Amsterdam.

Next year, the shows will be further afield heading to Abu Dhabi, Australia and South east Asia.

Beth said: "So far I am having the most magical time, experiencing all these new cities and meeting amazing and inspiring people."

"I have been handed my dream and I am very grateful everyday, seizing every opportunity."
