A MUM is set to hold her latest boot sale as part of ongoing events in support of her diabetic daughter's modelling career.

Great Yeldham resident, Stella Maris, 67, first started organising community events in Gosfield many years ago, after her daughter was born with Type 1 Diabetes.

Despite living with the lifelong condition, Stella's daughter, Cara Maris-Betts, 31, has an extensive career in modelling and regularly competes across the country.

In support of Cara's career and her condition, Stella organises monthly events like fun days, boot sales, tombolas and seasonal fairs.

At each event, Stella takes donations from attendees to raise funds for national charity Diabetes UK.

"I always fundraise for my daughter who is a Diabetic.

"Cara models and competes, and I set up the fundraisers.

"We always have diabetes buckets and T shirts at events and I often collect teddies and soft toys for our tombolas."

Both Stella and Cara are keen to "reduce the stigma" and challenge stereotypes surrounding Diabetes, hoping to raise awareness with their regular fundraisers.

Stella added: "Unfortunately most people think that if you have Diabetes then you must be fat - but it doesn't work like that.

"Type 1 is a condition you're born with when your pancreas can't break down sugars in the way it's meant to.

"Both Cara and I really want to raise awareness to Diabetes and reduce the stigma and stereotype that surrounds it.

"It's so important to me to support my daughter with her condition and career, whilst helping as many others in a similar situation through charity donations."

Stella has announced her upcoming indoor boot sale, taking place at Maurice Rowson Hall in Gosfield on November 30, from 10am to 1pm.

The event will see residents pitched with forgotten treasures on offer for attendees to search through.

The boot sale is free to attend, with a stall pitch priced at £12.50.
