HALSTEAD Town Council has announced the return of a ‘homemade guys’ display in the public gardens as part of the town’s Guy Fawkes Trail.

The council first set up the display in 2010, seeing many members of the community making their very own 'guys' out of old clothes and masks.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the display has been unable to go ahead for the past five years.

Halstead town council has now announced the revival of the seasonal display and hopes residents will once again help make the event ‘a success’ after the long-term break.

“Some local groups have already signed up and are making a Guy to display in the park – all in various guises.

“However, to make an impressive display it would be fantastic if as many Halstead residents, groups and clubs as possible could take part and make a real spectacle.

“All you need to do is make a Guy in the traditional way and bring him/her along before 9.30am and return at 3pm to take him or her home!.

“You can give your Guy a character, reading the paper, fishing, bird spotting and so on, and then place him/her in the park.

“They will have a card to stamp and a reward of a sweet.”

The display will be set up on November 3, with all homemade Guys in the park before 9.30am.

Residents must return by 3pm to collect their Guys.

The council has asked all homemade characters are labelled with the name of their creators, so that entrants can received a certificate.
