TWO village stalwarts have been awarded by the parish council for work in the community.

Doreen Digby and Jennie Alderton were given the Freedom of Stisted award.

The honour recognises their extensive voluntary contributions to the community.

The presentation took place at the 123 Club at the Montefiore, organised by Peter Bash, and coincided with a celebration for his 70th birthday.

Councillor Alan Routledge represented the council in awarding the honour.

Mrs Alderton's community involvement has been multifaceted, spanning roles such as Parish Council Clerk and member, community transport organiser, village shop manager, and 123 Club participant.

Her deep interest in Stisted's history led to her assembling significant materials forming the Stisted Historical Archive, now housed with an archive team at the village hall.

She also transformed research material from the late Ron Parks into a published resource for the village.

Her work on this publication has been much appreciated by many in the community.

Mrs Alderton has also been a key member of the Women’s Institute, her enthusiasm helping the organisation thrive.

Mrs Digby has also held several roles in the community, including managing community transport and trips, running the village shop, and being a long-standing member of the 123 Club.

She is renowned for her unique collection of pen-and-ink drawings of Stisted's notable buildings and locations.

These drawings have enhanced the profile of Stisted in various publications, including Ron Parks’ Historical Index to Stisted.

They also featured in her famous, but rarely seen, Stisted-based board game.

The community congratulated both women for their remarkable contributions.
