A HALSTEAD barber has said he remains "determined" to complete a trek up one of the UK's tallest mountains after an effort was cancelled due to dangerous weather conditions.

Jonathan Bradley has been working at the town's Mr Barbers since last September.

The fitness-lover has an extensive history of hiking and was set to take on the challenge with his 23kg barber chair strapped to his back in aid of TOFs charity.

TOFs charity offers support and services to families with children born unable to swallow, due to medical issues, and was chosen by Jonathan after his best friend’s baby was born with oesophagus issues.

Jonathan was due to climb 1,085m up Mount Snowdon in Wales on August 25 before performing haircuts in the barber chair at the summit.

However, after he and 17 others set off to reach the top of the mountain, the weather took a turn for the worst.

After completing Miners' Track and The Pyg Track, 60mph winds began to blow, forcing Jonathan to abort his mission.

He said: “I made the decision to turn back, it had been a dangerous journey for some time.

“It was a day that just wasn’t meant to be.

“An absolute outstanding effort from myself and the others and it was some people’s first time putting on hiking boots.

“It just shows it’s always mind over matter."

Despite being disappointed by not reaching the top, Jonathan has rescheduled the fundraiser and is looking forward to trying again.

“It’s obviously very deflating and disappointing that I wasn’t able to reach the top," Jonathan said.

"But spirits and moral were high throughout.

"We have not been defeated and haircuts at the peak will happen this year."

So far, the fundraising challenge has raised a whopping £1,333 for TOFs charity.

Jonathan thanked those who have already donated and said he is "determined" to raise more and complete the challenge to give clients the opportunity to enjoy a "haircut and a view".

Jonathan will attempt to tackle Mount Snowdon again on September 28 and invites supporters to climb with him.
