A Halstead hairdresser is set for a monstrous challenge as he will be scaling more than 1,000 metres up one of the UK's tallest mountains... with a 23kg barber chair strapped to his back.

Jonathan Bradley started learning the trade four years ago and has worked at Halstead’s Mr Barbers since September 2023.

Always having a passion for fitness, he has had an extensive history of hiking, having climbed a whopping 14 mountains in just one year in 2023.

“When I’m not cutting hair I’m hiking," the 30-year-old said.

Now, he is set for a mammoth challenge, preparing to climb 1,085m metres up Mount Snowdon, in Wales, with his 23kg barber chair strapped to his back in aid of a charity close to his heart.

Once at the summit, Jonathan will be perform haircuts in the barber chair with all proceeds going to TOFS charity.

TOFS, based in Nottingham, offers lifelong support to those born unable to swallow due to medical conditions.

Jonathan decided to raise money for the charity after his best friend’s daughter was born struggling with oesophagus-related issues.

He said: “My best friend’s daughter was born unable to swallow due to a problem with her oesophagus.

“She’s had to have many operations at Great Ormond Street hospital.

“It’s completely changed my friend and her husbands’ lives and I want to support them, as well as others going through a similar situation.

“I thought hiking Mount Snowdon with my chair would be a call and entertaining way to raise a bit of money for an important charity and hopefully inspire others."

Jonathan has also invited members of the public to join him on his challenge.

“The reason I chose Snowdon is because it’s quite a family mountain," he said.

“There’s a train that takes you from the bottom to the top, with a café, too.

“People with disabilities can come along for support and meet me at the top,

“It’s also always nice to cut hair with a view."

In preparation for his fundraiser, Jonathan has travelled to different areas with his chair – like Maldon and London – performing haircuts and makes sure to complete daily tasks with the chair strapped to his back.

He has also visited Paris this week to perform haircuts by the Eiffel Tower and in the Olympic Village in an effort to spread the word about his fundraiser.

Jonathan will take on the challenge on August 25.
