Young performers in Halstead have wowed the crowds at their latest musical production with auditions for the next show under way.
Youngsters at Abigail’s Performing Arts took the stage with We Will Rock You, a musical theatre written by Elton John and with hits by fan favourite Queen.
Abigail’s Performing Arts is a youth production company for children aged 4 to 18 years old.
Owner Abigail Overall told the Gazette that trying to put a show on while children are facing major exams has been a challenge.
She said: “We began our rehearsals in January this year. We are a very small team, comprising of only three teachers and we only rehearse once a week.
“A lot of our main cast have been going through their GCSE’s and A levels during this time, which they have dealt with amazingly.
“Our two leading ladies are twins, Holli and Daisy Dixey, they have been performing with us for five years and have been outstanding, they both have so much talent and the most incredible voices.
“Our two leading men, Tristan Williams and Cameron Kiff have been performing with us for many years and have blossomed into the perfect partners to lead the show.”
The We Will Rock You show was a big hit with the audience of around 500 people, with many saying it was the best production yet.
“We also raised £500 for cats protection. We choose a different charity every show and the raffle proceeds all go to them.”
Following the show on Sunday, which Mrs Overall described as “sensational”, the school is already getting ready for its next production ahead of the Christmas season.
“We now begin the rehearsal process again for our next big musical which is Elf Jr,” said Mrs Overall.
“This will be held on December 14 and 15 at Gosfield Schools performing arts centre. This will be a big occasion for us as we will be celebrating 10years of Abigail’s. During this time we have produced 16 shows and raised over £8000 for various charities.”
