The hole was reportedly discovered today, June 16, in Parsonage Street.

Resident Christopher Howard took to the Halstead Community and Street Watch group to make others aware earlier this evening.

He said his gardener first noticed the hole at about 11am today.

After discovering that the hole had worsened, he contacted Essex Highways and a team arrived at around 7pm to investigate.

He said: “I didn’t think it particularly concerning at the time and then this afternoon at 4pm it had worsened, so I contacted the out-of-hours emergency number for Essex highways.

“You can see from the pictures how they are trying to make it safe for everyone.”

This follows on from earlier this year in January when a large hole had opened up in Mitchell Avenue, causing a section of the road to be shut.

The hole appeared following a large water leak in the area.

At the time, the Anglian Water website said the issue had been logged as a leak, with repair work in progress.

The Halstead Gazette has contacted Essex Highways for a comment regarding the sinkhole in Parsonage Street.
