FOUR villages will battle it out in an archery competition which claims to be the first in the Braintree area for nearly 600 years this weekend.
The Inter-Village Archery Competition - also know as the ‘Fighting Village of the Year Competition’ - is taking place at Stock Street Farm Barn, in Coggeshall, on Saturday.
Residents from Coggeshall, Bradwell, Stisted, and Great Tey will take part in the longbow archery competition, alongside the Outlaws Archers club.
All the team members have been taking part in weekly archery lessons, held by Outlaws Archers, in the run up to the competition.
A spokesman for the Stock Street Farm Barn said: “We have at least four villages entering the competition on Saturday, and some villages may have enough members for two teams.
“They have all been to the Wednesday evening training sessions and have picked it up very quickly and are quite evenly matched - well that's until the pressure mounts in the competition.
“In addition to the archery competition, we will have the brilliant Hells Bells Alternative Morris dancers with us from 2.30pm.
“The winners and losers of the competition will be able to celebrate or commiserate with our wide range of beer festival ales, ciders and cocktails as well.”
