A VETERAN scooter fan was all revved up for a special surprise as her birthday dream came true.
Halstead care home resident Eileen Patten celebrated her 90th birthday in style, spending an afternoon on a scooter.
As an avid scooterist when she was younger, Eileen’s wish to relive the feeling once again was made possible thanks to the FaNs Wishing Washing Line.
Eileen, who lives at Colne View care home, was overjoyed by the surprise.
She said: “What a surprise, I didn’t expect this. What a wonderful birthday. Thank you all so much.”
Vespas and Lammies were brought in by members of the Writtle International Scooter Collective, Odds and Sods Scooter Club, Three Amigos Scooter Club, Braintree Breakfast Scooter Club, the Armed Forces Scooter Club, Essex Scooterists and the Arrows Scooter Club (A604).
Tony Lee, community networks lead at FaNs Essex, said: “It’s wonderful to see how the community reacts when someone has a wish.
"Eileen’s wish is a perfect example of that. And this isn’t a one-off.
“The FaNs Network has been facilitating the granting of these wishes for years.
“The power of community, the participation of the care home and one simple good heart makes a whole world of difference to older people living in care, and we can’t wait to see what happens when new wishes are posted.”
