A VILLAGE school has opened its new early years foundation stage area after a refit.
St John the Baptist Primary, in Pebmarsh, had a grand opening for the area after new artificial grass was fitted.
The school said talks on how to improve the area started at the beginning of term.
The team, led by infants teacher Fiona Lock, decided the area was “wasted ground” as it was “uneven, muddy and hard to maintain”.
It was then decided to improve the site, replacing the sleepers and mud area, which is now a sensory garden and bigger mud kitchen.
The school underwent a grand opening of the area, with youngest pupil Lottie given the honour of cutting the ribbon.
There was a huge cheer as the ribbon fell open and the children ran on to the grass screaming and laughing.
Miss Gage, acting headteacher said: “It really is a joy to see the children enjoying this newly developed area, the space is one-third of their outside classroom and so now that it can be fully used is going to really make a difference.
“At St John's we believe that children deserve the very best from their education and this is just one of the ways we are trying to improve."
The team is “excited” that the project has been completed, which includes a brand new sand pit.
St John the Baptist Primary is offering tours for its Reception intake for September 2024, and has space in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 for mid-year applications.
