THOUSANDS flocked to a historic venue over the bank holiday weekend as it held its last joust of the year.
The event, which was held at Hedingham Castle, delighted guests with some historical family fun and games.
It was the third and final joust event of the year.
Previous events were held in April and June with similar success, with thousands through the gates on each occasion.
The castle welcomed the Knights of Albion to the grounds in its latest outing, in what was their first time at the venue.
There were plenty of activities to enjoy, such as archery, axe throwing and more.
It also saw the return of the family-run Eden Falconry, which provides educational falconry and bird of prey services.
Marketing manager Steffi Dry said: “We had a very successful last joust of the year with more than 1,000 guests each day.
“The crowd was wowed by the Knights of Albion. It was their first time jousting at Hedingham Castle and they were very well received.
“Visitors enjoyed watching the jousting as well as sword battles with flaming weapons.
“Eden Falconry joined us and flew their magnificent birds for the first time since they've been allowed out since the national outbreak of avian flu.
“The medieval village with Pelican in her Piety was much enjoyed by all and featured authentic demonstrations of medieval crafts such as weaving, milling and smithing, and the Colchester Waits set the atmosphere with their medieval music.
“Visitors were also invited to take part in archery, axe throwing and the ever-popular mechanical jousting horse for the children.
“It is safe to say a great weekend was had by all.”
Hedingham Castle still has some fantastic events to look forward to for the rest of the year.
These include some theatre showings, music events and the return of the Porsche Classics at the Castle event.
