A FARE-DODGER who avoided paying a £12 train ticket has been hit with a bill nearing £500.
Paul Bartrup, of Harvey Street in Halstead, was caught without a valid railway ticket travelling from London in September last year.
The verdict was proved at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court via the Single Justice Procedure, meaning defendants do not have to appear in court.
The 56-year-old was ordered to pay £483, consisting of a £220 fine, £88 victim surcharge fee and £175 in costs.
Bartrup was also ordered to pay the £12.70 for the unpaid rail ticket.
