A DRIVER is being hunted by police after causing severe damage to a roadside barrier before fleeing the scene.
Officers were called to Bridge Street, Halstead shortly before 5am on Sunday, March 26, following reports of a road traffic collision.
The force say the driver caused damage to street furniture and blocked the road, then fled the scene after the incident.
Police are now appealing for information.
A spokesman said: "Despite taking out half of the street furniture, blocking the road and leaving this vehicle in a dangerous position, the driver thought best not to stay at scene or call the police.
"Officers attended along with colleagues from Highways England and dealt with the dangerous scene to make it safe for other road users and pedestrians.
"We’re appealing for any witnesses, drivers with dash cam footage or any businesses in the nearby area who may have CCTV of this incident to contact us to assist with our enquiries.
"If you have any information or witnessed this incident, please contact us via the online chat on the Essex Police website or by calling 101 and quoting incident number 215 from 26/03/2023."
