A DRAMATIC society is set to stage two short plays from a popular author and playwright.
Sudbury Dramatic Society is presenting two plays by Alan Bennett - the writer of The History Boys and The Lady in the Van.
The Yorkshire playwright has had plenty of success over his career, receiving numerous awards and honours, including two BAFTAs, four Laurence Olivier Awards, and two Tony Awards.
The society will be performing Say Something Happened and Cocktail Sticks.
A spokesman said: “Related with Alan Bennett’s characteristic gentle humour, he finds something remarkable and profound in the apparently ordinary happenings of life.
“Say Something Happened is set in Bennett’s home city of Leeds in the 1970s.
“June, an enthusiastic social worker on her first assignment, visits a fiercely independent elderly couple and learns rather more than she expected to.
"Cocktail Sticks is a humorous, yet often moving, autobiographical account of Bennett’s life and career as a writer.
“He reflects on his relationships with his Mam and Dad, which lead him to consider a wonderfully diverse range of topics, from the works of the poet Philip Larkin to the fundamental truths concerning the basis of happiness and the source of the inspiration for his writing.
“Bennett himself appeared in the first production in 2012, which received widespread critical acclaim.”
The plays will be performed at the Quay Theatre in Sudbury from March 7 to March 11.
