A SHOPPING village sent its guests back in time as it hosted a weekend-long Tudor fair.
Petersfield Village in Gosfield hosted its first Tudor Fair, taking revellers back to the 15th and 16th century celebrate the famous era of British history.
It follows on from a number of successful events staged by the shopping village this year including boot sales and car shows, with the fair also proving popular.
The Tudor event was staged by The Companye of Merrie Folke, an experienced Tudor re-enactment group which set up its encampment on the area behind the village.
Formed in 2012, the aims of the group are to bring the past to life and engender a better understanding of history.
The Tudor period ran from 1485 until 1603, and formed a major part of British history, with many stories to tell.
Over the two-day event at Petersfield, guests enjoyed a variety of events, such as archery, dressing up in armour, storytelling and basket making.
There were also plenty of trade stalls to excite shoppers including candles, bread and sweets.
Petersfield owner John Potter said: “The weather was lovely, and hundreds of people visited on both days.
“Guests really enjoyed the Tudor days and also spent time in the shops and cabinets at the village and the Fox in Stables Tearooms, all were very busy.
“We were very happy with the whole event and the response from the public was very positive.
“This weekend was our best event so far, and we will be looking at hosting another Tudor or historic event next year, maybe a Second World War or Dickensian event.
“Thanks to all the shops, event organisers, and volunteers that helped on the day.
“The village is now looking forward to their next boot fair on October 23 and further events over Christmas, including a late-night shopping extravaganza on December 3, and a Dickensian Christmas day on the December 17.”
