A FUNDRAISER to restore a set of historic church bells has hit a large milestone.
St Andrew’s Church in Earls Colne is raising as much money as possible in order to get its bells restored and has now raised more than £10,000.
The bells were originally installed about 150 years ago and are in need of re-tuning and putting back with new fittings and working parts.
The church is trying to raise £60,000 to £70,000 to get the bells completely refurbished.
Trevor Beadle from Earls Colne is the tower captain with the church bell-ringers.
So far, he has helped to stage a charity concert with the Colchester Waits as well as holding a stall at the Four Colnes Show.
He said: “We continue with our fundraising efforts.
“Our stall and tombola at the Four Colnes Show raised a wonderful £481 for the fund.
“I am pleased to be able to tell you that our fundraising efforts as of September 1 have raised £10,313.”
Mr Beadle also spoke about two upcoming events as the fundraising efforts continue.
He said: “We have two forthcoming fundraising functions planned for the year, a quiz night with faffle and prize games at the Earls Colne Village Hall on Saturday, October 15 at 7.30pm.
“We also have a performance of A Christmas Carol at St Andrew's Church in Earls Colne on Thursday, December 22, at 7pm.
“This wonderful timeless tale will be told by Anthony Roberts, in the beautiful candlelit surroundings of the church, with musical accompaniment by Jamie Cunliffe.
“Raffle and seasonal refreshments will be available.”
