A RENOWNED tribute band are set to hold a star-studded concert to commemorate the anniversary of their inspiration’s death.
T-Rextasy is known as the world’s finest tribute act to the iconic glam rock band T-Rex.
Formed by Halstead frontman Danielz in 1992, the band was created to keep the memory of T-Rex and lead singer Marc Bolan alive.
Bolan died in 1977 just weeks before his 30th birthday after a fatal car crash.
In September, the band will be staging a show-stopping gig at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London to pay tribute to Bolan on the 45th anniversary of his death and what would have been his 75th birthday.
Teaming up with T-Rextasy is Marc Almond, lead singer with Soft Cell.
Marc Almond and Danielz are good friends, and both have a mutual admiration for Marc Bolan, with Marc even changing his name from Mark to honour the singer.
The pair have invited guests to take part in the event which also includes Holly Johnson from Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Tony Visconti, T-Rex’s former producer.
Danielz, who has lived in Halstead for more than 20 years, said: “This is a special event which we do every five years at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire.
“This will probably be the last though. Tony Visconti flies from America for it but he is nearly 80 now.
“The first time we did this was in, I think, 2007 and I think the Empire holds a couple of thousand people, but every time so far, the show has sold out.
“We will have Holly Johnson from Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Toyah Willcox and Andy Ellison.
“Andy was in Marc Bolan’s first Mod band called John’s Child.
“They were so wild they got booted off The Who’s tour by their manager.
“We’ve also got Boz Boorer who is Morrissey’s guitarist, Malc Almond, Nona Hendryx and of course Tony Visconti who will be conducting a string quartet.
“We’ve also got the Damned.”
Danielz said his band will also be playing Halstead's Empire Theatre later this year.
Tickets for the London show will be available from all major ticket companies with the show taking place on September 17.
