DEVELOPERS say residents can expect to see building work begin the coming months after they received planning permission for a controversial 80 homes bid.
Plans for the development of 80 homes in Halstead were given the green light by Braintree Council.
The project will be delivered by Bellway on a site off Oak Road.
Bellway will build 52 homes for private sale but there will also be 28 affordable homes for people through rent or shared ownership.
Richard Burrows, Managing Director of Bellway Essex, said: “We are pleased our plans have met with the approval of Braintree Council, and we are very keen to start construction work on the site.
“The varied mix of houses and bungalows will appeal to a wide range of potential purchasers from young first-time buyers to growing families and people downsizing in later life."
Bellway say work on the development will begin in the coming months.
Mr Burrows added: “Building work is due to begin in the summer and we intend to release the first homes for sale this winter.
“As well as delivering much-needed new homes for the area, the development will create a vibrant new neighbourhood in the town and bring jobs during the period of construction.
“This is a sustainable development designed to complement its rural surroundings.
“Trees and hedgerows will be retained throughout the site wherever possible and additional trees will be planted to create a natural environment which will benefit both residents and the local wildlife.”
The development will also feature a public open space incorporating a children’s play area with a picnic bench, extra seating and a large landscaped area.
Richard added: “This new development is testament to our ongoing commitment to providing new housing for Halstead.
“We finished building 106 new homes at Portway Place, off Colchester Road, in 2020, and are currently delivering 218 new properties at Willow Park, off Sudbury Road.”
