A VILLAGE hall is hoping to raise vital funds for repairs by hosting an upcoming Rock Choir concert.
Chappel and Wakes Colne village hall committee has announced it is working to raise cash for the hall.
The committee say money is needed for maintenance and repairs to the building and comes after it was unable to raise funds throughout the Covod-19 lockdowns.
In a bid to drum up funds, the committee is now hosting a concert by Rock Choir.
Music fans can listen to well-known and much loved gospel, Motown, pop and rock songs in what is hailed as a ‘West End’ performance by the UK’s original, award-winning, contemporary choir on Sunday, May 29, for £5.
Refreshments will be on sale as well as raffle tickets, and there will be an auction.
Tickets bought for a cancelled performance on March 23, 2020, during the pandemic, will be valid for this show.
Village hall trustee Christine Underwood said: “We had planned something in 2020, but because of Covid we had to cancel it.
“People had already bought tickets so we were going to refund them but some said ‘don’t worry’ so we decided that, if you’ve still got your tickets, we will still take them.
“There are a few things at the hall which need doing. It needs some electrical rewiring, and mainly the toilets, and we need to have the roof re-done.”
Organiser and choir member Patrick Dent added: “We’ve already had three concerts and we were due to hold the fourth in March 2020.
“The village hall doesn’t really get money from anywhere else, it’s reliant on events taking place there.
“The first Concert raised £616, the second raised £700, and the third raised £770 and we would have raised close to that again because it was sold out before Covid.
“Where else can you get a ‘West End’ performance for just £5.
“It is not ‘heavy metal’ - mainly gospel, Motown and well-loved rock music which we’ve all heard and sung throughout the years.”
