AN inspired hiker is set to take on a daring trek in the memory of her husband to raise cash for charity.
Jane Lomas, from Clare, will be raising vital funds for The Brain Tumour Charity on April 2.
She will be trekking from the Dead Sea in Jordan to Petra, a distance of more than 120 miles in the scorching heat.
Jane was inspired to take part in the name of her husband, Tim Lomas, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in January 2019 and died in March 2019 at the age of 56.
Jane has signed up with Dream Challenges Women vs Cancer – her chosen charity is the Brain Tumour Charity.
She said: "I am really looking forward to taking part for such an important cause.”
So far, she has raised more than £3,000 for her chosen charity through Just Giving
Thirty women are taking part in the trek, for the charity of their choice.
Gina Almond, The charity's Director of Fundraising, added: “We are extremely grateful for all the efforts made by our fantastic fundraisers and wish them all the very best.
“Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of the under 40s and, unlike other cancers, survival rates have not improved over the last 40 years.
“We are leading the way in changing this and truly fighting brain tumours on all fronts through our work.
“It’s through the efforts of people like Jane that we can change these shocking statistics in the future and bring hope to the thousands of people who are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year.”
The Dream Challenges – Women v Cancer desert trek is expected to take until April 9.
The Brain Tumour Charity is the UK’s largest dedicated brain tumour charity, committed to fighting brain tumours on all fronts.
They fund pioneering research to increase survival and improve treatment options as well as raising awareness of the symptoms and effects of brain tumours to bring about earlier diagnosis.
