A FESTIVAL is coming back to showcase leading performers in a variety of fields.

EA Festival is coming back for its second year to Hedingham Castle.

It is a both a live and streamed event showcasing local talent as well as internationally-recognised stars.

On display are performers in the realms of art, literature, fashion, music, poetry and more.

Founded by Joanne Ooi, it had its debut last year over the weekend of July 31 and August 1.

She said: “After living in East Anglia for some years, it became obvious to me that there were thousands of artists living and working in the region.

“Yet, when I wanted to take in some high-quality culture, I had to drive 90 minutes to either London, Cambridge, or Snape Maltings to enjoy a concert, recital, or exhibition. It was a real head-scratcher.

“I wanted to do something to create more connective tissue in the art and culture scene, but whenever I broached the subject, I was met with either bemusement or blank uninterest.

“Last year, a first-time encounter with one of my advisors Andrew Sunnucks changed my life - once I laid out my vision, he was all hands on deck, and one thing led to another and here we are.

“A festival is the people, their values, their energy, their commitment.”

Last year’s debut received strong reviews from those who attended and took part.

Creator of Black Adder, Spitting Image and QI John Lloyd, who spoke at last year’s festival, said: “EA Festival was the most magical weekend I can ever remember, for so many reasons, and I suspect life-changing for a significant number of people.

This year features a huge range of talent, such as Director of the Tate Modern Frances Morris, author and journalist Michael Sheridan, singer-songwriter Bessie Turner, and poet Luke Wright.

The event is on the weekend of June 11 and June 12, at Castle Hedingham.
