A PAIR of kittens were left dumped in a box in a car park before being rescued by a young boy.
The kittens are only believed to be six-months-old with the RSCPA launching an investigation.
The boy found the animals in the car park at Barn Hall Park in Wickford, taking them home to his parents who contacted the RSCPA.
The RSPCA says the animals were frightened but in good health and will now be rehomed.
RSPCA Inspector Jack Taylor, who is investigating, said: “These kittens had been left alone and exposed to all sorts of risks in the car park, and were lucky to have been found and kept safe.
“Luckily they seem to be in fair health, but they are understandably quite frightened still. It’s possible they were unwanted pets who had been abandoned at the car park, which is incredibly worrying. Dumping pets like that is completely unacceptable and really sad.”
Mr Taylor took the kittens to nearby RSPCA Danaher Animal Home in Wethersfield, and said they will receive plenty of love and care at the centre.
He says if nobody comes forward to claim them, they will be found a loving new home.
The kittens were found on March 3.
The incident has also sparked anger with community leaders who blasted the behaviour.
David Harrison, leader of the Wickford Independents, said: “I think most people will be disgusted by this sort of thing. It sounds to me like someone’s cat had kittens and the owner didn’t want them.
“I think it’s just so appalling that anyone could do something like this and it’s very uncaring. I am pleased the RSPCA now has the kittens and is caring for them.
“I hope to see someone come forward and give them a good home very soon.”
A spokesman for the RSPCA added: “Anyone with any information about the kittens can contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
