A RESIDENTIAL home’s answer to Crufts is being put on today, as they look to give the residents some joy.
Colne House Care Home in Earls Colne is putting on its own mini-Crufts event for its residents, as they continue to organise fun events after the pandemic.
Events organiser at Colne House Angie Caldwell, 45, said the idea came out as one that can get the community involved with the home.
She said: “We just want to get more involved with the community, now things are opening up and we are allowed people in, it can get lonely when you don’t see a lot of faces.
“There are lots of dog lovers here too, and the residents respond really well to these events.
“We’ve even got a resident here who went to Crufts years ago too.”
The event will 90 minutes, with members of the public invited to come in with their prized pooches to impress and introduce them to the residents.
Angie added: “There will be a small walk around the home, where owners and their dogs can meet the residents.
“Then the residents will give some rosettes to their favourite dogs.
“It is just an informal, relaxed event, and as I said is more about connecting with the community and having the animals in.
“The response from the community has been great so it should be really lovely.”

The event is part of an ongoing reintroduction into the community, where the home is looking to do plenty of fun activities for its residents.
Angie said: “We do lots of events and activities with everyone here.
“We have seated exercises, like music, singing, bingo, and arts and crafts.
“They all made pizza the other week, sometimes we do some gardening too.
“We also do a few trips out, so once a month we go to the Halstead cinema for their dementia-friendly showings.”
The Crufts event at the home is on Thursday (March 10).
