PROTESTORS took to the green spaces of Finchingfield to protest the prison proposals.
Members of the recently formed SWAP – Stop Wetthersfield Airfield Prisons – held a campaign in the town last weekend.
Those involved with the group from Finchingfield, and surrounding areas got together to make their voices heard.
There was a large amount of over 50 people that came to the protest as the group continues its growth, with Chairman Alan MacKenzie hailing it an ‘excellent turnout’.
The group also had a meeting with Braintree MP James Cleverley on Friday.
They are hoping to get more support from government officials soon, regarding what Alan previously labelled as ‘an important issue.
Alan said: “Plenty of other good constituency MPs have come out fighting with their constituents against inappropriate planning ideas, Wes Streeting (MP for Ilford North), and Sidiq Khan (London Mayor) did so for the Redbridge campaign in which I was involved.
“It is biggest proposed development in the Southeast, let alone in Braintree, there is no excuse not to get involved.
“The proposals breach local planning policies, national planning policies and MoJ policies on the siting of new prisons and it is breath taking in arrogance.”
