FILM-GOERS have enjoyed the final screenings of 2021 as the Empire Theatre gets ready for a new year of events.
The first of the last two screenings of the year was held last Friday at 7.45pm.
Sing Street, which is a 12-rated film, tells the story of a boy growing up in Dublin during the 1980s.
It follows the boy as he escapes his strained family by starting a band to impress the mysterious girl he likes.
Next up is The Preacher’s Wife on Wednesday, at 2.30pm.
The U-rated film follows the good-natured Reverend Biggs as he finds that his marriage to choir mistress Julie is flagging due to his constant absence caring for the deprived.
Also his church is under threat from developers, so in desperation he prays to God – who sends down Dudley, who causes even more trouble.
It stars Denzel Washington, Whitney Houston and Lionel Richie.
The theatre will then be closed until the start of the New Year pantomime – Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.
Staged by the award-winning Stane Street Players, it starts on Saturday, January 22, with all seats bookable online.
The theatre adheres to government Covid-19 regulations, under which face masks must be worn at all times in the venue.
