A COMPANY boss has spoken of his frustration after an offer to supply life-saving personal protective equipment fell on deaf ears.

Earls Colne-based Training 2 Care provides training for care providers and also supplies PPE to care homes, the NHS, councils, businesses and the emergency services.

Now the company is offering to help the Government during the coronavirus pandemic by supplying and delivering PPE to care providers across the country.

However, managing director Glenn Knight claims the Government has not responded to the offer.

Mr Knight said: “We were the first major training provider to suspend face to face or close contact training so when Covid-19 started, we lost £450,000 of orders in 24 hours.

“We changed the business to supply digital face to face or webinar training across the UK and this has become very successful.

“We now have nine vehicles sitting in our car park that could be delivering vital PPE to care providers across the country for the Government.

“We are willing to do this free of charge, including fuel, insurances, and drivers that are fully DBS checked.

“We have written on social media, spoken to our MP James Cleverly and written to the Government, but we cannot get the Government to speak to us.

“We know they have the biggest logistical issue. My view is that we need to use the ‘Dunkirk’ model and get all of the small companies that are willing to get these products to where they are needed.

“We want to lead this campaign but just need the Government to speak to us.

“I am not disappointed but just keen to turn a bad situation into a life-changing position.

“We will continue to campaign and just hope that someone with influence will support us in this mission.

“We are supporting the people of the United Kingdom and will do everything we can to help them as it is our social responsibility.”

The company is also working to reduce the impact of huge price rises in PPE on customers.

Training 2 Care has seen a massive price increase due to demand and a lack of supply.

Mr Knight said: “Customers are constantly phoning us and saying how they are running short of PPE and in some cases they have run out.

“These providers plead with us to help them source product, and Training 2 Care have committed to do this.

“The challenge for us is that we have to invest many thousands of pounds in overpriced stock which is very risky when suddenly availability may improve and prices drop back down to normal levels.

“This would mean that we will have products that we have overpaid for and would have to sell at a loss.

“We therefore carefully select products when they are available and sell to the marketplace at very small margins.

“We have been very successful at this and have sold over 500,000 individual products over the past month.”

Braintree MP James Cleverly said: “Training 2 Care have been in contact and we have made sure that they will be contacted if there is a need for extra transport capacity.

“The generosity of local people and local companies has been fantastic and is very much appreciated.”
