Increasing numbers of people having to visit Halstead foodbank
More than 200 children in the Halstead area are relying on foodbanks, and that number is set to rise.
Volunteers from Churches Together opened the foodbank, which operates on Mondays from St Andrews Church in Parsonage Street, in June 2012.
Between April 2013 to March 2014, 530 individuals needing assistance, and of these 214 were children.
This equates to more than one in every twenty people in Halstead having to visit the centre for food over the year long period, although the figures are for everyone who visits the foodbank, not just those who are from Halstead.
