STEAM engine fans enjoyed an encounter with a children’s favourite as Thomas the Tank engine rolled into town.
East Anglian Railway Museum at Chappel played host to the three-day event which saw young children get up close to Thomas and other trains such as Percy, Daisy and Toby.
Ron Davies from the museum’s press office said: “We started doing these events in the mid-90s and some of the people who came as children are now bringing their own children.
“We sell out almost every time and sell 1 thousand tickets in advance".
The event sees a real train with a life-sized Thomas the Tank Engine, and other characters like Percy and Daisy, as well as a meet and greet with Sir Topham Hatt, the controller of the railway.
Children can also meet Rusty and Dusty, Sodor Station Sweepers and ride on the Museum’s miniature railway.
“One of the greatest things about the event is seeing the faces on the children when they see Thomas for the first time – it’s absolutely magical,” Ron said.
A range of activities featured at the event, including a model railway display, Thomas and Friends giveaways for every child, and the Museum’s special Thomas shop – selling Thomas merchandise, like toys, clothes, and bags.
“This event has been hugely important to the museum in terms of income, and it’s always so lovely to see the visitors enjoying themselves,” Ron added.
