FUN in the sun returned to Halstead as the town's annual summer fair was back with a bang.
The event was held at Halstead’s public gardens on Saturday, offering more than 50 local business stalls, food stalls and activities for families.
As well as plenty of stalls, the fair held games like the three-legged race, as well as a dog show at 2pm – where visitors could bring along their furry friends to present to the community in a ‘cuteness’ contest.
There was also the popular tug-of-war event with teams competing for the Dave Rosoman Tug of War Challenge Cup, named in memory of former organiser David Rosoman who died earlier this year.
The event team is made up of lead organiser Linda Smith, alongside Heather Pittuck, Andy Munday and Melissa and Tiah Pumfrett.
Linda said: “The event is for people to come and enjoy for free.
“We’re trying to create something to bring the community together and support local businesses without the worry of entry costs."
“It’s got a great atmosphere and is a wonderful way to spend a summer Saturday,” Braintree Council chairman Lyn Walters, added.
A huge range of businesses attended, including Sudbury’s award-winning florist, Juniper Flowers, White Notley-based mobile farm experience, Gemma’s Farm, and local handmade, embroidery and printing business SCSOFCREATIONS.
Juniper Flowers owner Lianda Phillips and sister Rhianna were ‘excited’ to bring their business to their home town.
She said: “We’re so excited to be at Halstead’s summer fair, we’re a Halstead family so it’s lovely to bring Juniper Flowers to our hometown.
“It’s been a great day with a great atmosphere, and lots to see and do."
The fair is held, each year, at Halstead’s public gardens on the first Saturday in August.
Mayor Andy Munday was thrilled with this year's success.
He said: “Apart from a little bit of rain, it’s been a great day and seems to be well supported by the community.
“A huge thank you to the organisers, a lot of hard work goes into the event and it’s great to see it have success.
“A big thank you also to all of our sponsorships, a lot of them give prizes and create things for people to do so huge thanks to them."
