IN response to Mark Edwards’ comments I can’t agree more that Braintree, with an ever-expanding population, desperately needs a purpose-built theatre.
A modern venue would attract more visitors into the town which in turn would surely generate more income.
As Mark mentioned, the Braintree Arts Theatre attached to the school was not perfect, but at least we had a well-run venue.
It is now looking that it will never reopen.
We now have to travel to other towns to see shows.
The Empire in Halstead, the Apex in Bury St Edmunds and the the Orchard Theatre, Dartford all play to capacity audiences.
This proves that with a purpose-built venue, the right management and a good and varied programme, it would be a viable option for the town.
So come on Braintree Council, get your act together and give our expanding town a proper theatre.
