AN author gave pupils a copy of one his books to help youngsters get into reading.
Ian Eagleton visited the Ramsey Academy in Halstead, spending time with students as part of the school's reading challenge.
Mr Eagleton is a primary school teacher, education consultant and author of well-know books, like Glitter Boy and Nen and the Lonely Fisherman.
During the visit, Ian read his picture book Nen and the Lonely Fisherman aloud to students, before sharing his inspiration and publishing processes.
Ramsey's headteacher, Charlotte Sterland said: "All of Ian’s books contain themes and characters pertaining to the LGBTQ+ community, so it was a wonderful lesson in inclusivity and acceptance.
"The students had lots of questions for Ian, and thoroughly enjoyed being in the presence of a real-life author.
"He also signed a copy of his book for everyone and gave the school library a copy of his new book The Boy Who Cried Ghost."
Mr Eagleton was 'delighted' to visit the school and teach the 'importance' of inclusivity and diversity.
He said: “It was a delight to talk to the students at The Ramsey Academy.
"Their questions were thoughtful and insightful.
"I hope they gained a lot from discussing how the world of publishing works and how important inclusive, diverse books are.”
The Ramsey Academy's Librarian, Mrs Suzanne Owen-Westwood added: “Ian was so engaging for the students (and adults!) to listen to, and we can’t wait to have him visit again.
"His messages of inclusivity and acceptance should be shared with everybody.”
