CREWS worked through the night (August 7) to extinguish a large fire which destroyed an outbuilding and two lorries.
Firefighters were called to Little Canfield, near Great Dunmow, just before 1am to an outbuilding fire that had spread to two lorries.
One crew from Dunmow and one from Stansted attended the scene but due to a poor water supply in the area, crews from Leaden Roding, Thaxted and Halstead were also called to assist with Halstead’s Water Bowser.
The outbuilding - measuring approximately 25 metres by 10 metres - was 100 per cent alight and firefighters worked to move other vehicles to prevent them from being affected.
They worked throughout the night to prevent the fire from spreading and to extinguish the fire in sections.
Crews will remain at the scene this morning to dampen down the fire and monitor any hotspots.
The outbuilding and two lorries are all destroyed.
A fire investigation will take place later today to determine the cause of the fire.
Station Manager Steve Wintrip said: “Crews worked extremely hard to prevent this fire from spreading.
"The building contained a number of accelerants including approximately 1,500 litres of diesel and a large amount of bitumen which made firefighting extremely difficult as well as having a poor water supply.
"Firefighters acted quickly to move vehicles away from the fire to prevent them from being damaged and our control team were brilliant in deploying the resources to help us extinguish this fire."
