An angry mum has criticised a school for putting her son in isolation because of his haircut.
Sophie Turkentine contacted the Gazette after her 12-year-old son, Aidan Fradley, was allegedly told he would be kept out of class at Ramsey Academy, in Halstead, until either his hair was all shaved to the same grade or it grows back.
The tough stance came after Aidan had the letters “TNA” shaved into his hair on Saturday ahead of a trip to London to watch Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling.
Miss Turkentine, of Mitchell Avenue, initially vowed to keep Aidan off school until after half term so his hair had a chance to grow back and he didn’t have to have it shaved right to the scalp.
But she has since reluctantly had the sides shaved and he returned to class on Wednesday.
Deputy headteacher Calum Leys said: “At The Ramsey Academy it is our aim for students to develop a sense of pride in their work, behaviour and dress."
He added: “While we do not believe that it is appropriate to comment upon individual students in the press, the academy does have clear expectations regarding dress.
“One of these is that ‘extreme hairstyles will not be permitted’."
